Chapter 7 - Taking God at His Word by Kevin DeYoung

Westminster Confession of Faith says of Scripture:

“The authority of the holy scripture, for which it ought to be believed and obeyed, dependeth not upon the testimony of any man or church, but wholly upon God (who is truth itself), the Author thereof; and therefore it is to be received, because it is the Word of God.”

 I.  The recognition of a body of sacred writings

 1.  Old Testament

Exodus 24:7 – “Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, ‘All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!’”

 2. Jesus Christ

Luke 24:27 – “Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.”

Matthew 21:13 – And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den.”
