I. God’s Purposes For Marriage
     1. Partnership Genesis 2:18

Genesis 2:18 -The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.’”

     2. Multiplying Genesis 1:28

Genesis 1:28 – “God blessed them; and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it…’”

Malachi 2:15 – “Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring…”

Matthew 28:18-20 - Jesus said…“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

     3. Maturity     Romans 8:29

Romans 8:29 – “For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son…”

     4. Pleasure         Ephesians 5:25-29

Ephesians 5:25–27 – “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor.”

Ephesians 5:28-29 – “So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church.”

1 Corinthians 7:5 – “Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”

2 Corinthians 1:24 – “Not that we lord it over your faith, but are workers with you for your joy…”

Ecclesiastes 9:7-9 – “Eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do. Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun—all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.”

Nehemiah 8:10 – “…Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Matthew 25:21 – “His master said to him…enter into the joy of your master.”

Main Themes:
~ Marriage was created to resemble and reflect the Trinity so that means marriage is not primarily about us, it is about God.
~ Marriages can make it over the long haul and be appealing to others if God is the foundation and source of the marriage.
