The Calling and Joy of Ministry

Reviewing MCC’s Mission

Romans 12:1-13

Our greatest need and delight is to:

I. Worship and honor God.

We are all worshippers who seek to “enjoy & declare” the worth of God or someone or something else. Worshipping God is when I am delighting in Him and controlled by Him and His work in my life. When I am worshipping Him, I desire to make much of Him. Worshipping or Treasuring God means He is most valuable to me and the One that I most seek to enjoy and please.

2 Corinthians 5:15 -  He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

II.  Renew our minds.

1 John 5:19 - “We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”

1)      The World has its own attire and fashion

2)     The World has its own music and entertainment

3)     The World has its own vocabulary

4)     The World has its own behaviors and worldview

5)     The world has its own idea of serving

III.  Be in Ministry together.

Prophecy -proclaiming the Word of God

Serving - practical care for others

Teaching - gifted to present truth in order that people would be changed and live for Christ

Exhortation – walking with others to encourage, strengthen and at times warn them

Giving - sharing what one has been given to benefit others and glorify Christ

Leadership - to walk before and with people following  Christ

Mercy- demonstrating sympathy to those in need and the willingness to be used to alleviate the loneliness/hurt of a person for God’s glory.

Hospitality- Friendly reception and treatment of guests or strangers for their benefit and God’s glory.

Monday – 10-1-12, Reflecting on Yesterday

  1. Review Sunday’s message with someone. Are you truly committed to being in ministry to your brothers and sisters in Christ?  How has God used you lately to impact others at MCC?
  2. 2.    Read Romans 12:1-13 again and see what God reveals to you.
  3. “Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification.” Romans 15:2 – Pray this for His people.

Tuesday- 10-2-12, Reflecting on This Past Sunday

  1. Read Prov. 25:13. Do you see yourself as a messenger of grace and truth to people at MCC?
  2. What are your spiritual gifts and how are you using them? Is MCC getting your leftovers? Is your family?
  3. Read Eph. 6:5 and Col. 3:22. What is our ministry to be like outside the MCC walls when we are at work or school, etc.? Discuss with someone if you think many employers are thankful they have followers of Christ working for them? Why is it so important to be a Godly employee or student?

Wednesday – 10-3-12, Reflecting on this past Sunday

1. Read Mark 10:45. What characterizes the Life of Jesus? Are there a great number, some, or a few “servant-leaders” that you know? Explain your answer.

2.  Read 1 Peter 4:10-11. What truths do you see in this passage concerning ministry and serving? What are some ways that homes, churches, schools, work places, etc. would be different if this Scripture were lived out in God’s people?

Thursday -10-4-12, Preparing for This Upcoming Sunday

1.  Read 2 Tim. 2:1-2.  What is God’s plan for reaching the world with the Gospel?

2. How many generations are seen in this Scripture? In what specific ways are you and your family involved in this plan?

3. Why is this plan so important to the health and maturity of a local church?

Friday – 10-5-12, Preparing for This Sunday

1. Read Matthew 28:18-20. What is every believer commanded to be doing?

2. According to this Scripture, how do we know we will be successful?

3. Why is it so important to be baptized out in the open early in our faith walk? How might this assist us in being faithful in discipling others?

 Saturday- 10-6-12, Preparing for Tomorrow

1.  Read John 15:16. What promise does Christ give us concerning our ministry in discipling others?

2. Read John 14:15 - What is true of a believer who is passionate about Christ?  What does this mean concerning discipling others?
