United in the Gospel: Moving Forward

Romans 8

7-26-20

 

 

I. Confidence. (Romans 8:1)

 

II. Continually Able to Move Forward. (Romans 8:37)

 

III. How We Continually Move Forward.

 

1. Enjoy the Lord. (Romans 8:15)

Psalm 34:8 – “Taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him!”

2. Be led by the Spirit. (Romans 8:14)

Colossians 1:29 – “I am striving with all His energy working powerfully within me.”

3. Preach the Gospel to myself and others. (Romans 8:1)

John 16:14 – “He will glorify me…He will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

Psalm 119:36 – “Incline my heart to your testimonies…not to selfish gain!”

Matthew 4:4 – “Jesus answered… ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

4. Repent of my sins. (Romans 8:16)

Matthew 3:8 – “Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.”

5. Focus on eternity. (Romans 8:17)

Revelation 21:7 – “The one who is victorious will inherit all things…I will be his God…he will be My son.”

 

 ~ Pray we put our sins to death.

~ Pray we will be conformed to His image.

~ Pray we proclaim the Gospel.

~ Pray we live for eternity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Monthly Transformation Verse: Romans 5:8 - “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Weekly Transformation Verse: Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Going Deeper This Week

 

1.             Read Romans 8 and share what you appreciate about God. What does He want you to believe and apply?

2.             Review these scriptures of what walking in the Spirit looks like and discuss how you are doing. (Galatians 5:1, 16-26, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Ephesians 5:15-21) 

3.             In what ways does your position as an adopted child of God affect the ways you daily relate to God? How does 1 John 3:1-3 clarify our status as children of God in this broken world?

4.             Read 2 Thessalonians 3:5. What are we to ask the Holy Spirit to do for us on a regular basis?

Discuss the five faith steps of moving forward by the Spirit. Pray for one another to be always led by the Spirit.
