It is easy to get immersed into an engaging TV show or movie. Sometimes it’s easy to get immersed into someone’s problems. Being immersed into the life of the Resurrected Christ is what Paul is talking about in Romans 6:3-6. “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His. We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.”
To be immersed, submerged, thoroughly dipped into a relationship with the risen Messiah and His life means He is now in us and we are in union with Him. Everyone who has put their trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation has been immersed into His love, His forgiveness, His power, His life, and His eternity.
At 5pm on August 8 at Beach 10 we plan to submerge individuals into the lake water and watch them come out of the water with big smiles. Why? Because they will be declaring in water baptism what happened to them spiritually in their relationship with Jesus Christ. They were forgiven of their sins and immersed into the life of the Resurrected Christ through faith in Him and His death on the cross. What a word picture - coming out of the grave (the water) to live in the newness of life as a resurrected follower of Jesus. Come enjoy the day as soon as our Sunday gathering at 10am on the lawn is finished. Celebrate these brothers and sisters in Christ that are going public through believer’s baptism. Enjoy community and sing songs to Christ on Beach 10 as a witness to others and an encouragement to those being baptized. Come proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord!
