What Message Does Our Life Send?

by Ryan Thompson on January 24, 2018

What does your life say about Jesus?

In 2 Corinthians 3:3, Paul says that we display Christ through our lives: “And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”

The people around us are the recipients of our letter from Christ. Each of us has unique way to declare the message about Jesus through how we live and speak.

If we want the gospel to shine through our lives, we must live for God in all areas of life, whether we are cleaning up our house, working alone, or playing a game.

Here are three areas of our lives where our message from Christ is displayed:

1. How we spend our time

Our time says a lot about what is important to us. If we spend a lot of time earning, managing, and growing our money, it shows that money is important. If we aren’t spending time in prayer for the lost, it may show that we either don’t believe God answers prayer, or that we don’t think their salvation is important.

2. How we act towards others

This one is an obvious way that we influence people around us, but sometimes we forget patience, love, and the value of simply listening when we get our mind and heart distracted.

3. How we spend our money

Most of our finances are hidden to everyone, and only God knows exactly how and why we spend money. But people will notice when our focus is on accumulating stuff for our own entertainment. On the other hand, people will notice when we give generously in a way that affects them.

It is not about doing all of these perfectly. It is about trusting in God, who we are in Him, and His plan for our lives. Repentance is almost always more powerful than perceived perfection.

Everyone has a different story. Christ wants to say something to the people around us. We don’t have to stand on a box and preach the gospel to the crowded streets in order for people to get the message. We just be the person God created us to be in the place He put us with what the gospel He gave us.
