John 14:1-14

Following Jesus: “Doing Greater Works”
John 14:1-14

I. Jesus is fully and perfectly God.

John 1:1-4
John 10:30
John 11:25-27

II. Jesus is fully and perfectly man.

John 1:14, 18
Luke 2:7 - “Mary gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger…”

Luke 2:52 – “Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”

John 4:3-8
John 13:3-15

III. Jesus fully and perfectly modeled life in the Holy Spirit.

John 1:29-34
John 3:34

Luke 4:18 – “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.”

IV. Jesus promised a life of greater works to all believers.

John 14:7-14

What this promise means:
     1. Many believers will often live longer than Jesus’ stay on earth.
     2. All believers together will be part of the greater works.

1 Peter 2:5-9 - "You are… a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

     3. All believers can be involved in the life changing ministry of the Spirit.

John 6:63 - “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life.”

     4. All believers can now proclaim the risen Redeemer and all His
         promises to the entire world.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 - “I declare unto you the gospel…how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures."

Matthew 28:19 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

#1- Reviewing this Past Sunday
Following Jesus: “Doing Greater Works”
John 14:1-14

1. Read John 14:1-14. Discuss the message with someone.
2. Since Jesus is 100% God and 100% man, He is both our Messiah and
our Model. Read Colossians 2:8-10 and Galatians 4:4-5. What truths do
we need to remember as we look to Him to lead us during our daily
    living?
3. What do Luke 12:32, Ephesians 2:10, Colossians 2: 9-10, and Hebrews
4:14-16 reveal about His ability and willingness to empower us daily to
live a life that impacts others and honors the Father?
4. When you think of seeing “greater works” happen through you, your
family, and through MCC, what does that look like to you, and how does
this lead you to pray? To live?
5. Pray for us to believe His promises and be fully yielded to Him.

# 2- Preparing for Next Sunday
Following Jesus: “Having a Daily Relationship with the Spirit”
John 16:5-15

1. Read John 16:5-15.
2. How did Jesus’ disciples feel about His leaving? (16:5)
3. Why was it for His disciples’ benefit that Jesus was leaving? (16:6)
4. What would the Counselor do for the world when He came? (16:8-11)
5. What would the Spirit of truth do for Jesus’ disciples when He came?
    (16:12-14)
6. In what way would the Spirit bring Jesus glory? (16:14-15)
7. Spend a few moments praying this week for the sermon and that we as a
church would grow in our understanding of the Spirit’s work in our lives.
