I. Jesus’ Growth

Luke 2:52 - “Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”

II. How Jesus Grew

     1. Being under His parent’s lives and teaching.

Luke 6:40 -A student is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.”

      2. Depending daily upon the Holy Spirit.

Luke 4:18-19 – “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me…He anointed Me to preach the gospel…proclaim release to the captives…recover the sight to the blind…set free those who are oppressed…proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”

     3. Obeying the Father and proper authority by the Spirit.

John 8:1-11 Page #1069

          A. In obedience we proclaim that we love Christ and submit to Him as
              Lord.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 - “…I will cleanse you from all your idols…
I will give you a new heart …
I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in
                               My statutes…
you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”

          B. Applications concerning submission and obedience:
               I. Obedience is meant to be relational.
                   John 8:28-29

              2. Obedience is meant to be nurtured in love, trust and
                  accountability.               John 5:19-20

             3. Obedience is meant to be through the Lord and His resources.
                 John 14:10-11
                 John 15:7-8

 Faith Sheet

Transformation verse - Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”       Philippians 1:27

Main Themes

~ The Lord Jesus humbled Himself as the God-man and while on earth He completely obeyed the Father and submitted to His will. (John 5:30, 8:29 and 12:49)

~ Our obedience to God reveals that we love Christ as Lord (John 14:15), it will mature (perfect) us (Hebrews 5:8-9), it will lead us to honor Christ in our relationships (Hebrews 5:13-14), and it will give us heavenly rewards (Mark 10:29-30).
