Joyful Are: “The Merciful”
Matthew 5:1-7

~Mercy is God’s compassion that gives forgiveness and kindness to those
   who do not deserve either.
~Grace is God freely giving us more than we deserve - His approval and His
   Life.
~Grace and mercy are a must in our daily relationships because we all fall
short of living for God’s glory.

Ephesians 2:4-5 – “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,  even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).”

Romans 9:15-16 – For God says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy.”

Lamentations 3:22-23 – "Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."

Psalm 51:1-2 – David cried out, "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin."

Hebrews 4:15-16 – “… we haveOne who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Micah 6:8 – “He has told you what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

1. Mercy is best experienced and enjoyed when we accept we have nothing
to offer God except our broken selves.
2. Mercy and grace are best valued when God leaves a reminder of the
    continual need.
3. Mercy and grace are best displayed when we are able to stop promoting
    and protecting our image.

Matthew 5:1-7

1. Read Matthew 5:1-7. Discuss Sunday’s message with someone.
2. Define mercy. Why is mercy so important in our daily relationships?
3. When have you lately seen mercy really impact you or someone else, and
what did it do for your spiritual life?
4. Read Psalm 51:1-2, 86:5, 1 Timothy 1:16, and Hebrews 4:14-16. Then

# 2- Preparing for Next Sunday
Joyful are the Pure in Heart
Matthew 5:1-8

Christmas Celebration at MCC

1. Read Matthew 5:1-8.
2.What does it mean to be “pure in heart”? (Romans 4:5, 1 Peter 1:14-16, 2
    Peter 1:3-4, and 2 Corinthians 7:1)
3. Read John 8:46 and see what Jesus says about himself and His heart.
4. All believers in Christ are already positionally pure (righteous with God)
through Jesus Christ. We can also now live out His righteousness (walk
pure in heart) in our everyday situations and lives. Use 1 John 2:6 as a
    prayer for yourself and others.
5. This week is our Christmas celebration. Pray for those who will be here.
