Messes and Masterpieces:  Living Satisfied in Christ

1 Peter 2:1-12

5-19-19

“Worldliness” - Being pleased with the lesser joys of this life more than the great Joy of life.

1 Corinthians 3:1-3 “…I brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it…for you are still of the flesh… behaving only in a human way.”

I. Taste and see that Jesus is satisfying. (1 Peter 2:1-3)

1. Milk

1 Peter 2:2-3  - “As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow...”

2. Solid Food

Hebrews 5:14 - “…solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

3. Water

Isaiah 12:3 - “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.”

4. Honey

Psalm 119:103 - “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Supernatural Tasting brings Supernatural:

~  Believing

~  Savoring

Ephesians 1:23 - “(He is the One) who fills all in all.”

Genesis 1:29  - God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed…of all the earth… it shall be for food.”

Psalm 34:8 “…taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”

II. Live to show the Lord Jesus is satisfying. (1 Peter 2:4-12)

1. Chosen people - God’s chosen, loved and accepted people from all the nations, that now make much of Christ in the world.

2. Royal priesthood- God’s Spirit-led men and women that connect others to Christ.

3. Holy nation -God’s redeemed people who are now supernaturally otherworldly, refusing to be contaminated by the world, in order to take the Good News of Christ to the world.

4. Proclaimers of JesusGod’s resurrection people that are boasting in the satisfaction and sufficiency of the resurrected Jesus.

 For Discussion This Week

1. How does living as God’s image-bearers impact your daily thinking and living?

2. What steps might you take now and in the summer in order to be richly satisfied in the Lord and also proclaim Him to others?

3. Which description of God’s people from 1 Peter 2 connects with you the most and why?

4. How should reflecting on our identity in Christ motivate us to proclaim Him to those around us? Reflect on why God rescued you from yourself. (Acts 15:13–14, 2 Timothy 1:8-9, 2:1-2 and Hebrews 13:15-16)

5. How can living in the world as alien ambassadors be exciting and challenging? Pray and use 1 Peter 2:11-17 as a guide.
