Colossians 3:1-25

Knowing Life: Appropriately Dressed    

Colossians 3          

9-15-19

I. Live the resurrected life. (Colossians 3:1)

1. Satisfaction.

2. Security

“What If” - Worry

“If Only” -   Regret

3. Sufficiency.

II. Set your mind on things above. (Colossians 3:1-2)

Psalm 105:4 - “Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually!”

III. Trust my entire life to Christ. (Colossians 3:3-4)

1. For you have died. (Colossians 3:3)

2. Your life is Christ. (Colossians 3:3-4)

3. You will appear in glory. (Colossians 3:4)

IV. Put away old attitudes and actions. (Colossians 3:5-9)

V. Put on Godly attitudes and actions. (Colossians 3:10-17)

VI. Live in the world with our new identity. (Colossians 3:12-17)

“Chosen” – Selected to belong to God.

“Holy” - Set apart for God and His purpose.

“Loved” – God’s steadfast affection, acceptance and commitment.

“Compassion” - Showing tenderness while beingChrist-like to someone hurting or in need.

“Kindness” - Loving words and deeds.

“Humility”- Confidence in God and not oneself that leads to thinking of others first.

“Meekness” - Strength under control.

“Patience” - Ability to endure troubles and not buckle.

“Forgive” - Choosing to obey God and release the offender to God while choosing to move forward in faith.

“Love” – God’s steadfast affection, acceptance and commitment.

 Discussion Questions for the Week

1. What is one way you have seen God work in your life this week?

2. Have at least one person share the gospel message.

3. Ask one person this week to read and explain the passage in their own words.

4. Ask your group members to share what they wear to work and what they change into when they get home from work.  Does clothing matter?

5. What does it mean to focus on things above during our busy day?

6. What motivates us to set aside sinful attitudes and actions?

7. What does it look like for you to let the word of Christ dwell in you richly?

8. Make one “I will” statement to the group. What do you plan to put to practice this week by God’s grace? Pray to display the life of Christ in and outside the church.
