Teach Life: Learn It, Live It and Teach It
Titus 2:1-15

Main Idea: Discipleship is an intentional investment in other’s lives to see them love God, love others, and make disciples.
Jesus’ Model:
Mark 3:13-15 - “He called (them to)…be with him….”
John 1:39 - “He said… ‘Come and …see.’”
Matthew 4:19 - “Jesus said, ‘Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.’”
I. Discipleship is a Way of Living. (Titus 2:1-8)
Older men: Titus 2:2 (7 Traits)
1. Sound doctrine - True, healthy, uncorrupted
2. Sober-minded - Free from dominating influences
3. Dignified - Weighty, honorable
4. Self-controlled - Wholeness and God defined consistency
5. Sound in faith - True, healthy and uncorrupted belief
6. In love - Uncorrupted devotion and commitment
7. In steadfastness - Patiently enduring, persevering in trial
Older women: Titus 2:3 (4 Traits)
1. Reverent in behavior - Sacred and worshipful life
2. Not slanderers - Malicious gossip, not hurting reputations
3. Or slaves to much wine - Controlled by alcohol
4. Teach what is good - Proclaiming the Good News
Younger women: Titus 2:4-5 (6 Traits)
1. Love their husbands and children - Be affectionate and committed
2. Be self-controlled - Wholeness and God defined consistency
3. Pure - Holy and uncorrupted
4. Working at home - Faithful to keep the home and house running well
5. Kind - Good natured and excelling in good deeds
6. Submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled - Voluntarily placing oneself under husband’s leadership for God’s glory.
Younger men:Titus 2:6-8 (5 Traits)
1. Self-controlled - Wholeness and God defined consistency
2. Model of good works - Consistent pattern of attractive actions
3. In teaching show integrity-wholeness, unbreakable, blameless in instructing others
4. Dignity - Respectful, weighty, honorable
5. Sound speech - Wholeness and beyond accusation (so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.)
Bondservants: Titus 2:9-10 (6 Traits)
1. Submissive to their masters in everything - Placing oneself under another’s leadership for God’s glory
2. Well-pleasing - enjoyable, attractive, appealing
3. Not argumentative - Opposing, speaking against another
4. Not pilfering - stealing, holding something back
5. Showing all good faith - Confident trust and faithfulness
6. In everything adorn the doctrine of God our Savior - Show the Lord to be attractive and worthy
Church: Titus 2:14 (3 Traits)
1. Purified - Cleansed, holy, set apart to God
2. Zealous - Passionate, enthusiastic
3. For good works - God-honoring and attractive deeds
Shepherd/Leader: Titus 2:15 (5 Traits)
1. Declare - Proclaim, speak, announce
2. Exhort - Encourage, comfort, appeal
3. Rebuke - Expose, convict, refute
4. With all authority - With all God’s command and influence
5. Let no one disregard you - Look down on you, falsely examine, disregard or despise
II. No Matter My Calling or Age, God Will Teach Me and Use Me in His Kingdom. (Titus 2:1-9)

III. Truths About Christlikeness Through Discipleship (Titus 2:1-15)
1. It is caught and taught. (Titus 2:6-7)
2. It best silences critics. (Titus 2:7-8)

3. It is spiritually appealing (Titus 2:10)
“God wants you to be a winner, not a whiner.” -Joel Osteen
1 Peter 3:3-4 - ”Do not let your adorning be external… let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.”
Proverbs 19:22 - “What is desired (ornament) in a man is steadfast love…”
4. It will be opposed. (Titus 2:15)
5. It comes through faith that leads to faith. (Titus 2:10)
Romans 1:16-17 - “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’”
Questions this week for Growth in Christ:
1. What do you most appreciate about God and your life?
2. Who was an older person who took time to teach you something about life or God? What was special about him or her? What did this person teach you that stuck with you? Thank God for the person.
3. List characteristics from Titus 2 that Paul said believers of various ages should exhibit. Why are these important today?
4. Who is your spiritual mentor right now? How often do you meet? How does he/she help you grow?
5. Who are you mentoring/discipling and how is he/she growing in their walk with the Lord?
6. How often do you mention and pray MCC’s Purpose: Love God, Love Others, Make Disciples? How can you increase in speaking and praying these truths with your family? Pray for one another.
