A Kingdom Established: Solomon Asks for God’s Wisdom      

1 Kings 3:1-15            

Wisdom is the ability to live out God’s truth in daily life.

 I. Ask for wisdom. 1 Kings 3:5-15

Proverbs 3:5-7 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths…

Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”

John 15:5 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

James 1:5 - “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

John 14:13-14 - “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”

 II. Apply wisdom.      (1 Kings 3:16-28)

III. Appreciate wisdom. (1 Kings 4:29-34)

Prov. 3:13-15 - “How blessed is the man who finds wisdom… it is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her.”

Colossians 4:5 - “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.”

Begin with prayer

Listen to others

Eat with them

Serve them

Share the Gospel

Colossians 2:3 - “In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

1. Discuss some of the great leaders of history. What made them great leaders?

2. Imagine today if God told you to ask for anything from Him. What immediately comes to mind?

3. What relationships in your life do you most need God’s wisdom right now? Why?

4. What similarities and dissimilarities are there between asking God for wisdom and children asking for help from their parents? (Luke 11:13, 12:31-32)

5. How would you explain to others that wisdom is more valuable than wealth, power, or approval?

6. Look up these scriptures on wisdom and use them to pray. (Matthew 7:7, Proverbs 2:6, Ephesians 5:15-16, James 1:5, James 3:17, Colossians 4:5-6, Proverbs 13:10, Proverbs 19:8, 18:2,11:2 and 9:10.)
