A Kingdom Established: The King Who Fights for His People
1 Samuel 16:1-13

I. God’s king does not line up with worldly expectations.    (1 Samuel 16:1-13)

1 Chronicles 28:9 - “The Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts.”

 Luke 16:15 - “Jesus said, ‘You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.’”

II. God’s king trusts in the Lord’s deliverance.   (1 Samuel 17:20-51)

Deuteronomy 20:1-4 - “When you go out to battle against your enemiesdo not be afraid, or panic, or tremble before them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”

Truths to Remember:

1. Focus on God and His plan.

2. Be faithful.

3. Trust God when it’s tough.

Hebrews 12:2-3 - “for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame… has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God… consider Him who has endured hostility by sinners… so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

 Reviewing this Past Sunday With Family & Friends

 1. How is the truth that God “searches the heart” both bad news and good news for you?
2. What is God’s definition of a successful life?
3. What “pasture” are you in right now that is preparing you for a deeper walk and more ministry?
4. How can we misrepresent the gospel by identifying ourselves with David rather than the intimidated and overwhelmed Israelites?
5. Discuss what you learned this past Sunday and how it can be applied. Read Deuteronomy 20:1-4 and use it for prayer.
