Isaiah 11:1-10

“The Long-Awaited King”

Isaiah 11:1-10

 I. Jesus is an unlikely King. (Isaiah 11:1)

 

a. He is from the line of David. (Matthew 1:1)

b.  He has humble beginnings. (Luke 2:5-7)

c.  He is a servant leader. (Matthew 20:28, Mark 9:35) 

II. Jesus is a Spirit-Filled King. (Isaiah 11:2-5)

a. He brings true justice. (Proverbs 28:5, Isaiah 42:1,4)

b. He shows full reliance upon the Father. (John 8:26-29)

c. He rules with wisdom. (Colossians 2:2-3)

III. Jesus is a King that redeems and restores. (Isaiah 11:6-10)

a. He forgives. (Matthew 9:5-6, Acts 13:38)

b. He gives peace. (Ephesians 2:14)

c. He is returning. (Revelation 22)

1. Read Isaiah 11:1-10 and discuss. (If you have children, review their note sheet with them).

2. How was Jesus an unlikely King?

3. Why is it important for us to see Jesus’ birth as part of God’s redemptive story?

4. How can Christmas be a season to remind us of our Kings’ coming?

5. Read Luke 2 with family or friends as we celebrate Jesus our King.
