The Promise Land: God’s Great Love  

Ruth 1:1-18

~ Love is possessing God’s affection for others and doing what is best for them. (Eph. 2:4-5)

 1. God’s love is Steadfast. 1:1-18

Jeremiah 31:3 - “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued my faithfulness to you.”

How do we share God’s love with one another?

1. Words of Affirmation - Words of life and blessing - Thank you, I believe in you, I love you…I see God doing…., may I pray with you?

2. Acts of Service - Deeds of kindness that show our love - doing the dishes, cleaning up after ourselves, taking the trash out, watching the children, etc.

3. Time - Being with others and being all there - marking times on calendar to meet, putting away screen time, stopping and listening, etc.

4. Gifts - Buying and or giving gifts - making something, bringing home flowers or a small gift, sending a card, etc.

5. Meaningful Touch - Touching someone in love - hugs, appropriate kissing, rubbing someone’s back, etc.

2. God’s love is Welcoming.      2:1-12

Kinsman Redeemer:

i. Must be a BLOOD relative

John 1:14 - “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us...”

ii. Must be ABLE to redeem

1 Peter 1:18-19 - “Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold… but with precious blood…the blood of Christ.”

 iii. Must be WILLING to redeem

John 10:18 - “No one has taken my life away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative….”

3. God’s love is Redeeming. 4:9-17

Matthew 1:21 - “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.

 1. Who have you known that loved in a way that pointed you to Jesus Christ?

2. Discuss the five ways we can show love in everyday life. In which of these would you like to grow and why?

3. In what specific ways is our church showing God’s love toward others?

4. How does the cross show us that love is steadfast?

5. Discuss God’s love and pray for one another - Romans 5:8, 8:37-39, Ephesians 2:4-5, Psalm 86:15, Psalms 33:18, Jeremiah 31:3, Zephaniah 3:17.
