The Rescue Begins: “Devoted to God while Being Misunderstood”  

Luke 2:40-52               

 I. Devoted to God above others.  (Luke 2:40-47)

 Deuteronomy 6:4-7 - “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shalllove the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might…And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart You shall teach them diligently to your childrenand shall talk of themwhen you sitin your house, and when you walkby the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

 II. Devoted to God’s will. (Luke 2:48-50)

 Mark 3:35 - “Jesus said, For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.’”

 III. Devoted to ministering to others. (Luke 2:51-52)

 1. He loved the Father.

2. He loved them.

3. He prayed for them.

4. He honored them.    

5. He spoke truth to them.

6. He forgave them.

7. He died for them.

 

Faith Sheet for Friends and Family this Week

 1. What aspects of Jesus’ childhood would you want to know if you could ask questions? Why do you think the Bible does not spend more time on Jesus’ childhood?

2. Did you grow up in a home with religious or Christ-centered instruction? If so, how has the instruction impacted you?

3. How does your childhood experience influence the way you teach and disciple your friends or own family?

4. Word of the week: “Devotion” - Passionately committed to someone or something. How is devotion to God and His mission revealed in your daily life? Discuss these truths about devotion. Deuteronomy 6:5, Proverbs 3:9, 18:24, Luke 16:13, Romans 12:11, 14:1, 1 Corinthians 10:31, 2 Corinthians 5:15 and Philippians 1:20.

5. Discuss these characteristics of being a Christian that will help us grow in favor with others and how it honors God. Proverbs 18:21, John 14:15, Romans 1:17, Ephesians 4:13-16, 32, Philippians 3:13-15, Colossians 3:13-13, Hebrews 5:14 and James 1:3-4. Pray for these characteristics.
