Being A Disciple Of Jesus Christ

Luke 6:12-19

1. Jesus chooses His disciples after the Father gives the disciples to Him.

"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:44

"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me, I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” John 6:37-38

2. Jesus wants His disciples to be His.

And He went up on the mountain and summoned those whom He Himself wanted, and they came to Him. Mark 3:13

"Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” John 15:9

3. The Spirit made sure that we came to know Christ.

"The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit." John 3:8

Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord. Hebrews 13:20

And you were dead in your trepasses and sins….

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, mad eus alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved) Ephesians 2:1-5

4. Jesus planned that the key to “discipleship” would be that His disciples would walk with Him.

Questions for this week:

I. For Starters:

1. Tell the group how you became a true disciple of Jesus Christ and what

changes have taken place in your life.

2. What struggles/sins have kept you from being the disciple he wants you

to be?

3. Do the people who work with you know that you are a disciple of Jesus

Christ? How do you know they know?

II. Overview of Scripture

Read Matthew 6:25-33. What are some characteristics of a true discipleof Christ?
Read John 3:1-8. How does one become a disciple of Jesus Christ? In your own words describe what it means to be born again to one other person in your group.
Read Romans 14:13-17. What traits mark a true disciple of Jesus andwhat are worldly people most known for in their daily lives?

III. Growing Deeper

1. Review Sunday’s message with someone.

2. Pray for one another and for someone who needs Christ.
