Why Study the Gospel of Luke

I. Why teach from Luke?

1. Be immersed in Jesus’ words John 15:7-8, 17:17

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.” John 15:7-8 (NASB)

"Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” John 17:17 (NASB)

2. Proclaim the whole purpose of God Acts 20:27

"For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.” Acts 20:27 (NASB)

3. Teach us to obey all He commanded us Mt. 28:19-20

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…" Matthew 28:19-20 (NASB)

4. See people come to fully know Jesus

See believers gain a greater assurance 1:1-4
Show that Israel had rejected her king 23:4

Make known the importance of Prayer 1:8-10
Declare a call to Salvation 1:77

Read the “Introduction to Luke” from a study Bible. What did you learn?
Read the book of Luke in one setting sometime this week or read it together as a group.
Read Luke 24:13-27. What would be good to ask for as we study the book of Luke?

III. Growing deeper

Review Sunday’s message with someone.
What difference would you like to see in your life as a result of studying the Gospel of Luke and being saturated with the words of Jesus?
Pray for one another.
