Being Kingdom Focused With Possessions

Luke 16:1-15

 

I. Main truths:

 1. Use wealth for eternal friendships.

2. Be faithful to get more “true riches”.

3. Serve God and use money.

 II. Basic truths:  (By God’s provision)

 1. Support yourself        2 Thess 3:10-12   Page # 1186

             A. Work if able

 Deuteronomy 8:18 - But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth….

 Proverbs 28:19 - He who tills his land will have plenty of food, But he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty.

 Col 3:23 - …work heartily, for the Lord rather than for men

      B. Budget

Proverbs 27:23-24 - Know well the condition of your flocks, And pay attention to your herds; For riches are not forever….

Proverbs 21:20 - There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man swallows it up.

 Rom 13:8 - Owe nothing ...except to love one another…

   C. Save some

Prov 30:25 - The ants ….prepare their food in the summer

   D. Enjoy some

Ecclesiastes 5:19 - … as for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.

1 Timothy 6:8– If we have food and covering…we shall be content.

           E. Pray to be a steward

Luke 12:42 - The Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time?

2. Support our family                     1 Tim 5:8, 14-16  Page # 1188 

3. Support  our government

Romans 13:6 - Because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.

4. Support our church & beyond      1 Tim 5:17-18     Page # 1189

Acts 2:45 - They began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.

5. Go from tithing to being generous

Leviticus 27:30 - All the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord.

Deut 16:10 –You shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the Lord your God with a  freewill offering ..., which you shall give just as the Lord your God blesses you

2 Corinthians 9:7 - Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver

2 Corinthians 9:11 - You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Monday, 11-5-12 - Reflecting on Yesterday

1.  Discuss Sunday’s message with someone.

2.  Read 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15. What truths do you see concerning work, integrity, and finances?

3.  Why is it so difficult to keep a constant Godly perspective with money?

4.  How might God desire for you to change the way you handle His stuff?

 

Tuesday, 11-6-12 - Reflecting on this Past Sunday

1.  Read 1 Timothy 6:17-19.  Write out the truths you see in the text.

2.  Verse 19 states there is a better dividend than earthly investments.  How do we know if we really believe this truth?

3.  Why are “rich” people often conceited? (vs. 17)

4.  How does one stop from putting his hope in possessions?

 

Wednesday, 11-7-12 - Reflecting on this Past Sunday

1.  Do you have a financial budget?  Why or why not?

2. Read Proverbs 3:5-10. Notice how these truths all flow together

     concerning finances and possessions.

2. Why are many people struggling financially? (vs. 5-7)

3. Why is it important concerning when and how we give to God? (vs. 9-10)

 

Thursday, 11-8-12 - Preparing for this Upcoming Sunday

1. Read Luke 16:14-17. What is the main point?

2. Why were the Pharisees angry with Jesus? (vs. 14)

3. How did the Pharisees "justify" themselves in order to live a hypocritical   life? (vs. 15)

4. What does God think of the things that we often deem valuable? (vs. 15)

 

Friday, 11-9-12 – Preparing ourselves for this Sunday

1. Read Luke 16:14-17.

2. What was the proclamation of the Old Testament, and what is the focus of the New Testament? (vs. 16)

3. How can we know when God is truly at work in someone? (vs.16 end)

4. What is Jesus saying about His word? (vs. 17)

5. Why is this truth so important? (See John 5:39, if needed).

 

Saturday, 11-10-12 – Preparing for Tomorrow

1. Read Luke 16:14-17 and Matt 5:17-20.

2. What is added in Matthew’s passage that brings more light to the Luke passage?

3. Pray for God’s people, the lost and hurting, and our leaders.
