III. The purpose of church discipline is the spiritual restoration of fallen brothers/sisters and the strengthening of the church for the Glory of the Lord and for the GOSPEL TESTIMONY.
IV. Five obedience steps in the process of church restoration:
1. Address our own heart (vs 1-14)
1 Peter 4:8 - Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
Matthew 7:3 - Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
2. Lovingly go and confront our brother in private. (vs 15)
Gal. 6:1 - Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.
3. If he does not repent, take others with you. (vs 16)
~Purpose is to….
i. Honor the Lord and the Gospel testimony,
ii. Confirm the sin,
iii. Validate the response,
iv. See true repentance.
4. If no repentance, tell it to the church. (vs 17a)
5. If no repentance: (vs 17-20)
~ Publicly remove the person from All fellowship
~ and Pray
~ and Speak the Gospel to him.
2 Thes. 3:14-15 - If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Monday, 2-4-13 Reflecting on Yesterday
1. Read Luke 17:1-10. Discuss Sunday’s message with someone.
2. Reflect on how you deal with your own sins and loving addressing other’s sins.
3. Pray for His people to love Him more. Pray that we will hate sin and what sin does to His name and all of us.
Tuesday, 2-5-13 Reflecting on this Past Sunday
1. Read Luke 17:1-10 again. Read John 14:15. What does a person’s life look like that “truly” loves Christ?
2. Read Matt. 5:21-26. What step of obedience is commanded of all believers?
3. How well do you obey this command? What keeps you from making this a way of life?
4. Pray for willingness to obey Him in all areas of our lives.
Wednesday, 2-6-13 Reflecting on this Past Sunday
1. Read Matt. 5:9 and 13-16. How are His people to be known?
2. Now read Galatians 2:11-14. This passage reveals one of those times when someone is confronted publicly in front of the whole assembly without first going to the person in private. What caused Paul to confront Peter in front of “all”?
3. What is the difference between the fact that “we all sin” and a continual unrepentant directional way of life that is totally against what we profess we believe? (Gal 5:13-21)
4. What kind of heart does one need to be willing to address someone publicly for the benefit of the Lord’s name, the person and the community of faith? (Psalm 119:142)
5. Pray for anyone the Lord brings to your mind.

5. What is the purpose of the man’s removal? (vs 5)
6. What is the difference between how we interact with believers and unbelievers who sin and will not repent? (vs 9-13)
7. Pray for our maturity and our witness.
Friday, 2-8-13 Preparing Ourselves for this Sunday
1. Read Acts 5:1-11.
2. What does God think about hypocrisy among His people and the affect it has on His church?

4. Pray for anyone God brings to your mind.
