Matthew 26:1-2 When Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples, ‘You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be handed over for crucifixion.’
I. Three truths concerning God, Satan, and God’s purposes:
1. The Sovereignty of God must always be in force if the Plan of God and the Love of God are going to always be expressed.
Job 42:2 I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
2. All unbelievers are controlled by Satan’s influence, yet God has full authority over their lives and actions.
1 John 5:19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Proverbs 16:9 The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes
3. It takes God ALWAYS being stronger than Satan for salvation and God’s Kingdom to spread across the earth.
Luke 11:21-22 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed. But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.
1 John 4:4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome
them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world
II. Five truths concerning God, sinners, and terrible events:
1. God causes and allows everything.
Daniel 4:35 All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and [God] does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, 'What have you done?'
Isaiah 45:7 I form light and create darkness, I make success and create disaster; I, Yahweh, do all these things.
2. God does not try to do anything.
Ephesians 1:11 He works all things according to the counsel of His will.
Daniel 4:35 All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He
does according to His will in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of
earth; And no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’
3. God always does and ordains as He desires. (Psalm 115:3)
Psalm 115:3 But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever
He pleases.
Isaiah 46:9-10 …I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’
4. God decides who lives and dies and when.
Psalm 139:16 All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
James 4:13-15 Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.’
14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
15 Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.’
5. God makes everything eventually bring Him glory and His people good.
Genesis 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people.
Acts 2:22 ‘Men of Israel, listen to these words. Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know, this man...listen to this...delivered up by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross.’
