The Reign of God - Part Two
March 24, 2013 | Todd Cyphers
Luke 17:20-37
Notes:
I. The reign of Christ is gaining ground daily through His internal reign in every believer and will soon come to completion in making all things new. (20-21)
Rev. 21:5 - He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new…."
Gal. 4:4-7 - But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
II. Truths Concerning His Now and Future Reign
1. His people desire His physical return (22)
Acts 1:11 - (The angels said), "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."
Titus 2:13 - Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus
2 Tim. 4:8 - In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
2. His return will be seen everywhere (23-24)
Rev. 1:7-8 - Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him…
3. He must be rejected, suffer and die (25)
Luke 23:18-25, 44-47
4. His return will be an interruption (26-30)
5. His return reveals our heart and eternity (31-37)
1 John 3:2-3 - ….We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is…everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
1 Thess. 5:9-11 - …our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that…we will live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
